Rudyard Kipling"
āWhen you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldierā
General Douglas MacArthur"
āWe are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.ā
āIt is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.ā āOld soldiers never die; they just fade away.
āThe soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.ā
āMay God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .ā āThe object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
āNobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
āIt is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
The farce and tragedy of the word 'bumiputera' By Mariam Mokhtar
Friday, February 24, 2023
Malaysiakini : Within the Malay population, some still support the alleged
corruption because in their warped thinking, a Malay and not a non-Malay
will finally enjoy the money, despite its haram origins.
āHelpingā the bumiputera
The
phrase āhelping bumiputeraā is a farce. Its use in society and
especially in politics has crippled a nation. Some people have even
become arrogant from the sense of entitlement it brings.
The
phrase has enabled millions of Malays to live in denial because they
feel safe in the knowledge that, as bumiputera, they will be given as
much aid as they want from the government.
Elsewhere, the phrase has been used to mask anything and everything that has gone wrong.
Does
anyone dare complain about an underperforming bumiputera company, an
incompetent bumiputera management, or corrupt bumiputera civil
servants/politicians/individuals? No!
A Malay who criticises an
incompetent Malay will be seen as too westernised, or liberal, or is a
DAP sympathiser, and labelled an anti-bumiputera. A non-Malay would
think twice about censuring Malay incompetence, corruption, and failure.
The
result is a failed society, a breakdown in the provision of services,
and a gap in communication. Things will simply spiral out of control.
Bumiputeraism causes people to shut up, be hesitant about doing the
right thing, or fail to assume responsibility and control.
Fifty
years after launching the New Economic Policy, the majority of the
Malays are still struggling, but Malay politicians will insist that tongkats (handouts) are still necessary. Of course, they are! We know who benefits and who is excluded.
Unfortunately, when things donāt work out, many Malays still believe the propaganda
of irresponsible politicians that the DAP, the Chinese, the Christians,
Singaporeans, and the West are out to destroy the Islamic way of life
and control Malaysia.
Irresponsible politicians have corrupted our minds with the false bumiputera narrative. They make us forget that it is not just about one race in multiracial Malaysia.
We could deport all the āpendatangsā,
but do the remaining Malays think that they would then all be marching
happily towards progress and become rich and successful?
A pervasive narrative
Donāt make the mistake
that itās just the āpeasantsā or the rural folk who are ignorant and who
are easily fooled by the āMalaysia is only for the bumiputeraā line.
Many urban, intellectual, well-informed Malays are complicit in the
false bumiputera narrative that affirmative action policies are
necessary.
The cost-of-living crisis, the hardships
faced by the people, and the dual system of justice have brought out the
best and the worst in some. Malaysia would have been a beautiful place
without interfering racist politicians.
Jana Wibawa was a major
revelation. Those who were proud to claim they were āMalay first,
Malaysian secondā have shattered the myth that they were the true
champions of the bumiputera. Theyāre not!
The
bumiputera agenda was a useful tool for the already rich to amass even
greater wealth. Behind the scenes, Malay and non-Malay elites conspired
to trick ordinary Malaysians. We can identify the real traitors. They
are nothing more than arrogant apologists.
Malaysia has long suffered from a brain drain,
with the majority of the displaced Malaysians being non-Malays escaping
from the discrimination brought about by the bumiputera agenda.
In recent years, many of those who joined the brain drain were bumiputera.
It
does not necessarily follow that they are ashamed of the propaganda
hard sell of past administrations. A significant proportion of Malays
fled because they cannot stomach the oppressive lifestyle that the
religious conservatives have imposed on our daily lives. Simple things
like dress codes, education, and socialising.
Some of these Malays
are not disgusted at their governmentās actions, they have more selfish
reasons. They prefer a carefree lifestyle and refuse to live under a
nanny state. Some are children of wealthy and well-connected bumiputera.
They have the means to do so but other Malaysians are not so lucky.
What is the percentage of bumiputera who go about their daily lives and think as a Malaysian?
The
rhetoric of racist, nationalist Malay politicians combined with PASā
political Islam have created a monster, which we'll call āthe amoral
bumiputeraā. They often insult people of other faiths and cultures but
will brook no criticism of their own actions.
It is a Malaysian problem
How can we change the mindset among the majority of the bumiputera?
If affirmative action policies were to end, they would regret being denied easy access to handouts and privileges.
They
would not regret the loss of a two-tiered system of justice, the unfair
opportunities offered, and the abolishment of discriminatory practices.
They would not abandon the usual bogeymen (DAP, non-Malays) for their failures. Their usual arrogance will remain.
So, no, the farcical bumiputera agenda is not just a Malay problem. It is a Malaysian problem.
